Our Strategic Plan
2023-2025

From Strength to Strength

Underpinning The Illawarra Grammar School’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of educational practice in a constantly evolving global landscape is our Strategic Plan: 2023 – 2025.

Developed in collaboration with parents, students and staff and endorsed by the School Council, the Strategic Plan sets a clear path for the School’s future development.

Our focus is on five key pillars:

These pillars are supported by TIGS mission and core values:

The achievement of Academic excellence in a Caring environment that is founded on Christian belief and behaviour, so that students are equipped to act with wisdom, compassion and justice as faithful stewards of our world.

These pillars are supported by TIGS mission and core values:

The achievement of Academic excellence in a Caring environment that is founded on Christian belief and behaviour, so that students are equipped to act with wisdom, compassion and justice as faithful stewards of our world.

Pillar one:
Academic Excellence

STRONG learning

We have outstanding teachers partnering with engaged learners and parents for excellent personal outcomes.

Commitments:

  • Student agency and achievement
  • Teacher excellence

We believe the best outcomes are achieved when students are active participants and co-constructors of their learning. Our teachers focus on personalised learning growth informed by data and evidence to provide accurate, timely and relevant feedback, motivating students to achieve their personal best. Always looking ahead, we prioritise cohesive professional learning for our teaching staff.

Pillar two:
Christian Belief and Behaviour

STRONG character and convictions

We are a community of people who are shaped by God’s love.

Commitments:

  • Christian education and service in contemporary society
  • Christian growth and development
  • TIGS Community Hub

As a centre of excellence for Christian education, we will provide strong opportunities for our students to express their faith through service to others, teach the Gospel and encourage students to explore their faith, and be a point of connection and support for individuals, families and the community. TIGS graduates are well-rounded, skilled and confident young people who are equipped to make a positive contribution to society.

Pillar three:
Caring

STRONG connection and care

We are a safe community where care is active.

Commitments:

  • Wellbeing and pastoral care
  • TIGS community and connection
  • TIGS Community Hub

A culture of care is central to TIGS experience. First and foremost, we are focussed on the wellbeing of our students, and staff. We know students achieve their best when they feel safe, supported and understood. At TIGS connection and care are achieved through active and intentional pastoral care structures. As we grow, we will enable opportunities for our community to connect and care for each other and seek opportunities to extend our support to the broader Illawarra community.

Pillar four:
Tradition and Future Focussed

STRONG identity

We honour our past as we focus on the future.

Commitments:

  • Parent Association, Alumni and Foundation development
  • Student demographic insight
  • Optimised resources and facilities

For over 60 years TIGS has been the premier independent school and only grammar school in the Illawarra region. A proud history coupled with an innovative approach to learning provides an exceptional foundation for young people to grow from strength to strength. We are committed to creating an environment that cultivates engagement and learning. As the world is constantly evolving, we will require a new generation of leaders who are equipped with a unique skillset and intelligences that a curriculum only approach cannot provide. To steer students from strength to strength, a school must be forward looking, creative and customised.  Strong leaders need a strong school – TIGS strong.

Pillar five:
Sustainability and Stewardship

STRONG corporate citizenship

We tread lightly and leave a legacy for those who follow.

Commitments:

  • Organisational sustainability and stewardship
  • Coordinated philanthropy
  • Reconciliation education

Responsible service and stewardship are important elements of a TIGS education. We equip students to act with wisdom, compassion and justice as faithful stewards of our world. As an organisation, our strategic focus is to ensure the best practice policies are in place, enabling TIGS to serve its community in a sustainable and responsible way.
